What is PIP?
A
Pressure Indicating Paste (PIP) is a pure white silicone paste, used for seating crowns, bridges and full, immediate and partial dentures

Explain Step 1: Adjust the Denture Base with PIP
A
- Place PIP on denture base prior to seating
- Apply heavy pressure on 1st molar area until heavy pressure on 1st molar causes no pain
-if there’s no pain on heavy pressure, then discomfort while chewing may be due to tilting of the denture and twisting from occlusion

Step 2: Dentures peripherals with PIP
A
- One quadrant at a time
- Until border molding doesn’t displace the denture or show heavy burn through

Step 3: Occlusal adjustment
A
- Remount on articulator after denture base is adjusted
- Minimize buccal cusp contact
- Should sound like loud knocking when centric contacts are even
- Excursion contact disturbed no bumps, jumps, light anterior contacts
- Centric contacts on flat surface, middle of Occlusal surface

Step 4: Chewing Test & Rate
A
- Until no pain and looseness
- If there’s a problem, adjust occlusion until patient rate 95-100% better
- Locate the problem teeth, minimize contact that are uneven, heavy, buccal to the ridge

Check VDO, aesthetics and phonetics

Step 6: Polish
A
- For small areas use Brasseler polishing poi ts in the clinic
- For final polish
- disinfect, gloves off, take to the lab.
-clean pumice with liquid soap on a clean ragweed
-tin oxide on ragweed
- discard both ragwheelscwhen complete

- Care instructions verbal of written on a pamphlet,
- Toothbrush and denture cup.

Recall/Follow-up
1. Within 1 day (mandatory for immediate dentures)
2. Eliminate problems early
3. Patient should be happy and comfortable
4. Practice yearly recall
