Provides context, qualifies sentence, and relates to previous idea.
What does a verb do?
Explains relationship between beginning and end.
What does object do?
Provides new or important information.
What are empty openers?

It-cleft: It is…(that)…
What should we not replace empty opener with?
Exists.
There is an obvious way to handle the problem.
But not:
An obvious way exists to handle the problem.
Or
Handling the problem is obvious.
When should we not change it is?
When it refers back to a known thing:
Bob spends six hours wring the program, so it is his property.
