REVIEW QUESTIONS – FLIGHT MANAGEMENT, NAVIGATION Flashcards
- How/when does the FMC receive DME updating?
-The FMC auto tunes 2 scanning DME systems. DME updating is defaulted to OFF
- When the tuned frequency (no decoded name) remain visible on the PFD or ND or shows an incorrect identifier, how do you verify the station identity?
-Identify the station via audio Morse Code
- What does a flashing ALIGN light (white) on the IRS panel during preflight indicate?
-either significant difference between previous and entered position, an unreasonable present position entry, or no present position entry
- What does the FAULT light (amber) on the IRS Mode Selector Unit Indicate?
-a fault in the related IRS ATT and/or NAV modes
- What does an ON DC light (amber) illuminated in flight indicate?
-The IRS is operating on DC power from the switched Hot Battery Bus
- What does a single DC FAIL light (amber) illuminated in flight indicate?
-DC power for the related IRS is not normal, if no other lights, the IRS is operating on normal AC power
- What will happen if both ON DC lights (amber) illuminate?
-back up power to the right IRS is terminated if AC power is not restored within 5 minutes
- IRS ground alignment at high latitudes may take how long?
-5 to 17 minutes
- When does IRS position and ground speed information become available?
-not until the IRS is aligned on the ground
- What does a GPS light (amber), illuminating during Master Caution Recall and extinguishing when the Master Caution System is reset, indicate?
-the failure of a single GPS sensor
- With the FMC Source Select Switch set to NORMAL, how are the FMCs controlling the CDUs and providing input to the autothrottle?
-The left FMC is primary, and provides the autothrottle input and controls the CDU
- How does moving the FMC source select switch to BOTH ON L or R affect LNAV and VNAV?
-selected FMC controls both sides, you see an FMC L or R on opposite map, and LNAV/VNAV will disengage when the selector switch is moved
- What does an illuminated MCDU EXEC light indicate?
-to execute a change in the modified data
- What signifies mandatory data inputs on the MCDU?
-Boxes where the data goes
- when is INSUFFICIENT FUEL on the CDU displayed?
-if predicted fuel at the destination will be 2000 lbs or less
- What are the indications of a right FMC failure?
-FMC alert light and FMC message will illuminate, SINGLE FMC OPERATION will be in both scratch pads, VTK flag on the right display, LNAV/VNAV will disengage if on auto pilot B, and after 25-30 seconds the right nav display will display failure information
- What are the indications of a left FMC failure?
-FMC alert light, the MENU page will appear on both CDUs, VTK flag on left display, LNAV/VNAV will disengage, and after 25-30 seconds the left nav display will display failure information
- What are the indications of a dual FMC failure?
-FMC alert light, the MENU page will appear on both CDUs, VTK flag on both displays, LNAV/VNAV will disengage, and after 25-30 seconds both nav displays will display failure information
- Define Actual Navigation Performance (ANP) and Required Navigation Performance (RNP).
- ANP- is the FMC’s estimate of the quality of its position determination
- RNP - the required accuracy of the navigation capabilities of the aircraft
- When does LNAV engage, regardless of heading?
-when laterally within 3 nm of the active leg
- The descent path starts at the calculated top of descent (T/D) point and includes waypoint altitude restrictions. The path is based on what parameters?
-idle thrust, speedbrakes retracted, descent wind speed decreasing with decreasing altitude, and applicable target speed.
- When does VNAV PTH descent automatically revert to VNAV SPD?
-overspeed reversion, path diversion (aircraft is more than 200’ above the path), or if there is no “TO” waypoint (you are on a vector)
- AT28R, BT28R, and CT28R are waypoints from what type of FMC procedure?
-EO SID
- When will BYPASS appear between two waypoints on the legs page?
-2 waypoints are very close to each other and the aircraft can not turn to capture the leg between the 2 points
