Review 4- Liver Flashcards
What is Vitamin A: Retinol transported in and as?
IN: chylomicrons to liver
AS: ester of long chain fatty acids
What happens when vitamin A levels in blood decrease?
The liver mobilizes the vitamin by hydrolyzing retinyl ester
The resulting retinol binds to retinol-binding protein–>secreted into the blood
What is Vitamin D transported in and as?
IN: chylomicrons
AS: Nonesterified form
Where are the 2 major source of vitamin D stores?
adipose tissue and skeletal muscle
What two roles does the liver play in vitamin D?
- initial activation of D3 to 25 hydroxycholecalciferol
2. synthesizes the vitamin D-binding protein
Where is the major store of Vitamin K?
skeletal muscle
What is Vitamin K required in and for?
hepatocyte for synthesis of prothrombin(blood clot)
