Retinal Detachment Flashcards
Separation of the RPE from neurosensory layer
May result from trauma, aging process, or cataract surgery; also seen in clients with myopia
Retinal Detachment
4 Types of Retinal Detachment
- Rhegmatogenous Detachment
- Traction Retinal Detachment
- Combination of Rhegmatogenous and Traction
- Exudative Retinal Detachments
The most common form of retinal detachment
Rhegmatogenous Detachment
Cause is tension, or a pulling force
Traction Retinal Detachment
Patients with this condition have developed fibrous scar tissue from conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, vitreous hemorrhage, or the retinopathy of prematurity
Traction Retinal Detachment
A hole or tear develops in the sensory retina, allowing some of the liquid vitreous to seep through the sensory retina and detach it from the RPE (Retinal Pigment Epithelium)
Rhegmatogenous Detachment
The result of the production of a serious fluid under the retina from the choroid
Exudative Retinal Detachment
