How do we define a retail pharmacy business
A business (other than a professional practice carried out by a doctor or dentist) which consists of or includes the retail sale of medicinal products that are not subject to general sale
What is ‘retail sale’
Any sale which does not fall within the definition of wholesale dealing is a retail sale (aka its supplied directly to a patient/customer)
Retail sale can only occur when who is present?
A responsible pharmacist - so the owner, an employee or a locum

So far as concerns the keeping preparing and dispensing of medicinal products other than GSL
Must be under the management of a superintendent pharmacist
What are the requirements for superintendent pharmacists
They must be a pharmacist
A statement in writing sighed by them and on behalf of the body corporate specifying their name and stating whether theyre a member of the board
This must be sent to the registrar
They must not act in a similar capacity for any other body corporate
(They can be the responsible pharmacist too)
What do superintendent pharmacists do
Have overall responsibility for setting out the standards and policies for the provision of pharmacy services (oversee sops etc)
Manage the pharmaceutical aspects of the business where a corporate body owns the business
Have legal obligations under the Med act
Carey full time responsibility and accountability within the pharmacy
