What is industrial denatured alcohol used for
Industrial purposes, as a solvent and for external medical applications
What are trade specific denatured alcohols used for
Skin preparations (perfumes, toiletries, cosmetics, external medical applications (creams and ointments)) Disinfectants for use in sterile environments such as where drugs are produced
How can a pharmacist obtain ida
Pharmacists need a written authorisation from revenue and customs to obtain IDA (or TSDA) The authorisation must state What they are entitled to receive Whatbit can be used for Conditions that must be observed
It is valid indefinitely but is renewed from time to time - HMRC may vary conditions or revoke the authorisation
Where can authorised pharmacists obtain ida
An authorised producer or distributor in quantities of 20 liters or more, or
in quantities of less than 20 liters from other authorised users e.g. Other pharmacists
NB provided users furnish the supplier with a copy of their authorization to receive before they receive
What are the conditions around the use of ida by pharmacists
They must
Only use IDA as set out in authorisation
keep records of all dealings i.e. receipt, use and supply records of quantities held
keep written signed orders from healthcare practitioners
provide annual return if requested by revenue and customs
keeping stocks securely and security is the pharmacists responsibility
local revenue and customs may require special storage arrangements
Record the results of stock takes and any actions taken
