Resurrection + Ascension Flashcards
What was the resurrection
Resurrection was when Jesus was brought back from the dead.
what are the stages of the resurrection and ascension?
- on the 3rd day after Jesus’ death, his followers went to the tomb and found it empty
- an angel told them Jesus had risen from the dead and they should pass on the news
- the Bible teaches that over the next few weeks Jesus appeared several times to his followers.
- after 40 days the ascension occurred.
What is the Ascension?
Jesus returned to heaven, by leaving the earth physically
What is the significance of the resurrection and ascension for Christians today?
-Christians may feel that they bring them hope.
-May also feel they show God’s true power
-Reassures them that God will forgive their sins
-Reminds them that Jesus may come again
-Good over evil
-Without the resurrection there would be no Christian faith
What is atonement?
Restoring the relationship between people and God that has been broken by sin. This is achieved by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. Jesus died for our sins to restore our relationship with God.
what is the importance of the resurrection+ascension?
-proved that Good triumphed over evil: the goodness of God won over the evil of human sin. Jesus lived – won over death
-proved to Jesus’ followers that he is God, because he was able to come back to life (omnipotence) and was able to spread his message so people believed him further
How does the resurrection &ascension alongside the crucifixion influences Christians?
- influences them to believe in life after death because Jesus (who was fully human) proved it was possible to come back when you have died
- also influences them to feel less fearful of death because hey know they will be in heaven with Jesus when they have died
