Q

general results

A

Only three participants in the doodling condition and four in the control group suspected a memory test

All claimed they had actively tried to remember the information for the test.
(this would have reduced the validity of the study so these scores were removed in the final scoring)

Q

Monitoring accuracy

A

Note: plausible mishearing - if a participant misheard a name, it was considered correct (eg: Craig/Greg
Names of participants who would not attend or responses such as ‘sister’ were considered false alarms
15 participants in the doodling group and 9 in the control group scored maximum monitoring score.
Monitoring performance was significantly higher in the doodling condition with a mean of 7.7 , than in the control condition with a mean of 6.9

Q

Recall performance

A

Overall recall for the doodling condition was 7.5 pieces of information (names plus places)
Compared to 5.8 in the control condition

Even when the scores of participants who had suspected a memory test were removed, the difference between the two groups was still significant
