Resultant Forces Flashcards
Name the 6 types of forces
- weight ➡️gravity
- water resistance ➡️friction
- air resistance ➡️friction
- thrust
- upthrust ➡️floating
- reaction
What acting forces does a moving car have?
Reaction
⬆️
Friction ⬅️ CAR ➡️ Thrust
⬇️
Weight - Balanced - constant speed
What is resultant force?
The sum of all forces ➡️ the overall force
Equation for resultant force
resultant force = mass x acceleration
What is resultant force?
The sum of all forces ➡️ the overall force
Unit for force
N
Unit for mass
kg
Unit for acceleration
m/s 2
What acting forces does a rocket have?
Balanced
Friction ⬅️ 🚀 ➡️Thrust
If a parachutist’s parachute is up, why is the upwards force bigger?
Because it has a parachute so air resistance is acting on the forces.
If a skydiver is in a tuck position, why will it fall faster through the air?
- It’s more streamlined
- has less air resistance
If the force of a spring is removed it will be…….
permanently deformed
Give 2 examples of objects that can store elastic potential energy and why
- Springs on a playground ride
- Stretched bungee cords
Because they can be stretched but will always go back to it’s original shape and size.
