Restrictive cardiomyopathy Flashcards
what is restrictive cardiomyopathy ?
Restrictive cardiomyopathy (RCM) is a condition where the chambers of the heart become stiff and less complaint over time.
What is the type of heart failure is seen in restrictive cardiomyopathy ?
Diastolic or HFpEF.
What are the cause of restrictive cardiomyopathy ?
- Amyloidosis
- sarcoidosis
- Endocardial fibroelastosis
- Loffler syndrome
- Hemochromatosis.
What is familial amyloid cardiomyopathy ?
It is a amyloidosis in which misfolded amyloid protein called transthyretin deposit in the cardiac muscles. It is commonly seen in african americans.
What is senile cardiac amyloidosis ?
It is due to the deposition of wild type transthyretin in the heart muscles.
What is Endocardial fibroelastosis?
It is commonly seen in children as fibrosis of endocardium and subendocardium due to infections and nutritional deficiencies.
What is Loffler syndrome ?
This is eosinophilic endomyocarditis which reduces the compliance of the heart leading to restrictive cardiomyopathy.
What is the ECG whole mark of restrictive cardiomyopathy ?
low amplitude QRS.
What is the Tx of restrictive cardiomyopathy ?
treat the underlying cause if possible or heart transplant.
