Atrioventricular block Flashcards
What is the duration of normal PR interval ?
120 to 200 ms or 3 to 5 small boxes.
What is the cause of AV blocks ?
damage or fibrosis of the electrical conduction system at the AV junction.
What is Lev’s disease or Inegrae lev syndrome ?
Lev disease is a result of proximal bundle branch calcification or fibrosis and is often described as senile degeneration of the conduction system. Its postulated cause is a hastening of the aging process by hypertension and arteriosclerosis of the blood vessels supplying the conduction system.
What is the most common cause of AV block ?
Myocardial ischemia
What is the ECG marker of first degree AV block ?
Prolongation of PR interval >200 ms. They are often associated to ageing, electrolyte imbalance, and medications.
What is the ECG of Mobitz type 01/ Wenckebach block ?
It is marked by progressive prolongation of the PR interval until a QRS is dropped followed by ventricular pacing which occurs after a compensatory pause
What are the symptoms of Mobitz type 01/ Wenckebach block ?
lightheadness, dizziness, and syncope.
What is the ECG of Mobitz type 02 block ?
2:01 or 3:01 pattern
What are the symptoms of Mobitz type 02 block ?
chest pain , dyspnoea, syncope.
What is the ECG of 3rd degree AV block ?
AV dissociation.
What are the symptoms of 3rd degree heart block ?
Syncope, dyspnoea, chest pain.
What is the treatment of AV blocks ?
Medications to increase HR ( Atropine)
Transcutaneous pacing
Permanent pace maker with cardiac rhythm monitoring in situ.
