Coffee houses
They were places that scientists and other men of importance would meet up and discuss matters over a coffee. They would receive the latest shipping news such as weather routes/weather times. The coffee usually a penny. They held auctions for goods, they bid until the candle went out.
Explain what were Restoration theatres
When Charles II came back from his exile in France and reopened theatres after Oliver Cromwell’s reign. He created the Dukes and Kings’ Company and other Restoration theatres in Westminster (West End). The design of the theatres had changed become more like French theatres. The lower class enjoyed satires and comedies as they made fun of politicians. Women became more involved into acting careers. Aphra Behn was the first female playwright.
What was the Great Plague
It was the return of the bubonic plague in 1665 that was being carried by fleas that attached themselves to rats that came from China. The plague mainly killed poor people as they already lived in unsanitary and unclean living spaces. The rich could afford care from doctors however the infection was too much so rich people such as Charles II started to leave London. 7000 people would die a week and people who were infected would be forced and locked into their homes with their families and have their home marked with a Red Cross. 100,000 people died in total from the plague. The bill of Mortality was created.

A group of scientists who met up weekly to discuss the latest developments in physics, botany (plants), astronomy, medicine and other sciences. Robert Hooke, Samuel Pepys and Robert Boyle.
