Summary of the Pilgrimage of Grace
Riots break out in Yorkshire and were led by Robert Aske. The riots spread further and is now supported by noble like Lord Hussey and Lord Darcy. The pilgrims control most of North England. The King sent the Duke of Norfolk who said that their demands would be listened to. Aske spent Christmas at Henry VII’s castle in Greenwich .Henry didn’t stick to his word and the rebels attacked but they were defeated twice
Significance
The dissolution of monasteries continued, taking larger monasteries
Thomas Cromwell is executed due to treason.
Henry’s wealth and power grows
It had the support of tens of thousands of the common people and a significant number of gentry and lesser nobles of the area of England north of the River Trent, an area always talked of as the “North”.
