Causes of Korean War
The north and south of Korea were separated by the 38th parallel.
North Korea was communist and South Korea was capitalist.
North Korea attacked South Korea pushing them over the 38th parallel. MacArthur wanted to use the atom bomb on China but was dismissed for insubordination by Truman
Warsaw Pact
Made in 1955. A collective defence treaty signed between the Soviets and seven other communist countries. The countries were Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Poland and Romania (Albania withdrew in 1968).
Space Race
A race/competition between America and the USSR to see who can achieve superior space flight capability
Arms Race
a race to increase weapons and military size between two opposing nations
Causes of Hungarian Revolution
Rakosi was a cruel communist leader.
He used the secret police to silence his enemies.
There was a lot of poverty and a lack of freedom.
A student protest was occurring in Budapest.
Khrushchev replaced Stalin when he died and encourage people to criticise the USSR.
