Patrol units will be dispatched on 421 calls that:
- Are suspicious in nature.
- Are related to unknown trouble calls.
- Involve injuries as a result of criminal activity or traffic accident.
- Are the result of a gunshot.
- Indicate a need for police involvement due to other circumstances.
If the injured person is suffering from a potential life-threatening injury or substantial head, trauma and incident crime report for second person will be completed, and photographs will be taken to document the detail details of the event

If officers arrive on a call where a resident or person responsible for the structure is transported, and there is no other responsible party to care for the structure, who will secure it?
The officer will try to lock the door and secure it, if they are unable, they will request dispatch to call the on-call company to board it up. The property owner will be billed directly for the service.
When do you request CSA on response to a dead body call?
All suicides, overdoses, and other deaths that are considered not natural
If there’s a death of a person of media interest, LVMPD, employee or family member of an LVMPD employee, who will be contacted?
The homicide Lieutenant or designated

When may patrol officers impound other firearms on a dead body call?
Patrol officers will only impound firearms for safekeeping on a dead body call when there’s a threat to life or safety exist, and when the public administrator is not available

Who handles vehicles regarding a dead body call if it is not on the roadway and needs to be towed by LVMPD?
The corner investigator will photograph the vehicle and advise the land owner or whoever’s responsible for the property that they can have the vehicle towed if they need
Who is responsible for securing structures on a dead body call if LVMPD did not damage the property to make entry?
The corner investigator will call their own on-call company to have the structure secured. A patrol officer may standby if requested by the corner.
Abuse and neglect detail is the primary investigator on any child death when will homicide take lead?
Homicide will typically take lead if there was an active concealment or body disposal after death regarding the death of a child
When will the abuse neglect detail respond to child death?
1-9
- Death of a fetus 24 week gestational age when physical abuse to the mother has occurred or when the mother intentionally ingested narcotics with the intent to terminate the pregnancy.
- Death of an infant/child with substantial injuries
- Drowning (all types)
- Head trauma and fractures (all types).
- Recent burns on a child.
- When a child dies from being left inside of a vehicle.
- Fire related incident where a child dies due to negligence. (does not include gang violence that will be handled by the gang section.)
- When a child commit suicide.
- When a child dies from ingesting a drug CPS will also be notified.
A patrol officer and a patrol supervisor will be dispatched on all events related to the death of a child
