A

Notification system managed by FDLE, capable of broadcasting critical suspect information through dynamic highway message signs and other appropriate notification methods, to increase the chances of capturing suspect(s) responsible for injuring or killing LEO.

Officer Involved Shooting (Policy Requirements)

A
  1. Notify Captain/CoC Immediately (Update throughout as details emerge)
  2. Respond Immediately to Scene
  3. Meet with on-scene supervisor (SitRep/F2F)
  4. Ensure their initial tasks have been completed
    A. Advise Communications to request a Forensic Technician to respond, if needed.
    B. Secure the firearm and leave it unaltered until a Forensic Technician arrives to document the weapon’s condition and recover.
    • Coordinate with Training Unit Supervisor to obtain a replacement weapon, unless criminal charges are likely.
    • Exchange firearms out of public view.
    • Ensure deputy is never seen by public without firearm.
    C. Ensure involved member(s) do not alter their appearance/clothing prior to being photographed/processed.

Officer Involved Shooting (Additional - Initial)

  1. Ensure medical attention is being rendered to those injured
  2. Ensure the scene is secured (utilize crime scene tape/log as appropriate)
  3. Ensure a scribe has been assigned
  4. Ensure the involved parties are separated
  5. Ensure CID is notified
  6. Ascertain status of suspect(s)
    A. If injured, ensure they are constantly supervised
    B. If deceased, ensure they are preserved as is.
    C. If any suspect(s) still at large, begin LEO Alert, BOLO,etc
  7. Update Captain/CoC

OIS (Additional - Intra)

A
  1. Assign companion deputy to member involved, to act as a facilitator/intermediary
    A. Coordinate replacement clothing, ride home, etc.
    B. Coordinate additional needed information to and from the involved member
  2. Public safety questions ONLY to involved member (be aware of Police Officer Bill of Rights/Criminality)
  3. Coordinate with relieving unit supervisors if prolonged, as necessary
  4. Establish ICS Components (ICP, staging area and JIC) as needed
  5. Establish a unified command, as needed
  6. Ensure perimeter units are on a relief break, as possible
  7. Coordinate delivery of water/food when practical for prolonged events
