Respiratory System: L2 Flashcards
What is the epithelium that lines conduction zone?
Psuedostratified ciliated columnar epithelium.
What are the structures found in the bronchus?
Cilitaed epithelium, goblet cells, smooth muscle, mucus glands, Cartilage plate
What is the main function of the bronchus?
Conducting Air
What is the main function of the bronchioles?
Control flow of air, Smooth muscles allows constructions and relaxation (BUT limited)
What is the proving tone to the wall of the bronchioles?
Smooth muscle as there is no muscle.
What structure are absent in the bronchioles?
Cartilage plates, Goblets cells, Mucus glands.
What structures are present in the bronchioles?
Smooth muscle, Club cells, Columnar ciliated cells.
What is Club Cell Secretion?
Secreted by club cells in the bronchioles. More watery, antibacterial, can still capture dust particles and move it.
What conditions affects bronchioles?
Asthma, Constriction of bronchioles.
How does Asthma Inhaler work?
Relaxes smooth muscle in the Bronchioles ( Bronchodilator ) Using Salbutanol.
Is there gas exchange in the respiratory bronchioles?
No, too thick.
What are the 3 major cells in the Alveoli?
Type 1 cells (Squamous Pneumocytes)
Type 2 cells (surfactant) Secretes Surfactant.
Alveolar Macrophages.
What is the main function of the surfactant that is secreted by the surfactant cells in the alveoli?
Reduce tension on the water layer lining the alveoli. The alveoli would collapse if there was only a water layer.
