What is the main function of the respiratory system?
A
- Providing oxygen to the body and removing carbon dioxide
- Gas Exchange

What happens in gas exchange?
A
- Oxygen diffuses into the bloodstream in the lungs, carbon dioxide diffuses out in the same way
- Oxygen and carbon dioxide have to diffuse through the wall of the alveoli and the wall of the capillary to get to the blood stream

What 2 organs are involved in gas exchange?
A
- Alveoli and capillaries
- Each end of bronchi branch end in tiny air sacs (alveoli)
- Alveoli have very thin walls that are surrounded by capillaries

What is the function of the heart?
A
- Pumps blood throughout the body
- Heart beat can change with physical activity, stress, temperature, health etc.
