respiratory system Flashcards
3 functions of respiratory system
gas exchange
sound production
temp regulation
respiratory passageways
nasal cavity - preferred pathway, warms and filters breath
oral cavity - alternate route
palate - seperates nose from mouth.
hard palate - made up of maxillary bone
soft palate - uvula
pharynx - throat where food, air and liquid mix
larynx - sound production
trachea - windpipe
bronchial tree
lungs - R lung has 3 lobs, L lung has 2 lobs
tissue layers
tunica mucosa - mucous coated epithelial layer
tela submucose - LCT superficial to epithelial layer
tunica media - connective tissue
tunica adventitia - DICT outer layer
anatomy of larynx ( voice box )
thyroid cartilage - hyline cartilage
cricoid cartilage - hyline cartilage
arytenoid cartilage - hyline cartilage
epiglottis - elastic cartilage
sound production is
created by larynx
the trachea
consists of a U shapes ring made of hyline cartilage. tissue is ciliated pseudostratified columnar epirhelium
bronchial tree
principal or main bronchi - going into L & R lung lobar brochi segmental bronchi bronchioles alvolar ducts alveolar sacs - bumch of avleoli alveoli - single avleoli
associations with cardiovascular system
pulmonary arteries - deoxygenated blood from the heart
pulmonary cappillaries - site of gas exchange and surround alveolar sac
pulmonary venules - oxygenated blood back to heart
respiratory trace - inhale
exhale is backwards

alveoli and pulmonary capillaries
