Respiratory Infections And Tumours Flashcards
What is pneumonia?
Inflammation and consolidation of lung tissue due to an infectious agent
What bacterial pathogens can cause pneumonia?

What is the treatment of pneumonia?
Antibiotic treatment- unknown aetiology
Uncomplicated- aminopenicillin or benzylpenicilln or macrolide
Complicated- extended spectrum, antibiotic and macrolide
What is CURB-65?
This is a score that estimates mortality of pneumonia to help determine whether or not the patient should be in hospital
Confusion
Urea >7mM
Respiratory rate >30/min
Blood pressure diastolic <60mmHg or systolic <90mmHg
Older than 65 years
What is lung cancer?

What are some lung cancer metastases?
Liver
Bone
Adrenal
Brain
What is the staging of NSCLC?
I- small tumour
II- moderate size tumour and/or local nodes
III- big tumour and/or non-local nodes
IV- non-nodal metastases
What is the treatment of NSCLC?
Surgery
Radiotherapy
Chemotherapy
What are paraneoplastic phenomena?
Group of rare disorders that are triggered by an abnormal immune system response to a cancerous tumour known as a ‘neoplasm’
