tube between throat and stomach
pancreas
digestive organ on the left side of the thorax. produces digestive juices and insulin, as well as other hormones to do with digestion.
liver
digestive organ on the right side of the thorax. Processes blood leaving the stomach & intestines and breaks down, balances, and creates the nutrients and also metabolizes drugs into forms that are easier to use for the rest of the body or that are nontoxic.
pituitary glad
Called the ‘master gland’ as the hormones it produces control so many different processes in the body. It senses the body’s needs and sends signals to different organs and glands throughout the body to regulate their function and maintain an appropriate environment. This gland is located at the base of the brain, behind the bridge of the nose. It is about one-half inch (1.25 cm) in diameter. This gland rests within a hollowed out area of the sphenoid bone called the sella turcica.
pineal gland
produces melatonin hormones. Its main job is to help control the circadian cycle of sleep and wakefulness by secreting melatonin. Located deep in the brain in an area called the epithalamus, where the two halves of the brain join. In humans, this is situated in the middle of the brain; it sits in a groove just above the thalamus, which is an area that co-ordinates a variety of functions related to our senses.
thyroid
Located in the throat. It produces hormones that regulate the body’s metabolic rate, growth and development. It plays a role in controlling heart, muscle and digestive function, brain development and bone maintenance. Its correct functioning depends on a good supply of iodine from the diet.
thymus
This gland is in the chest, between the lungs and behind the breastbone or sternum. It is just in front of and above the heart. This gland makes white blood cells called T lymphocytes. These are also called T cells. This glad stimulates the development of immune cells
Adrenal glands
creates adrenaline and fight or flight / stress hormones. located on top of both kidneys.
