A

Delivers drug directly to the airways

  • smaller doses required than by mouth.
  • less side effects

e.g. salubutamol more effective in inhaler from than the tablet form known as salvent

A

you would give clenil, as QVAR is more potent and wouldnt match the dose of beclometasone.

QVAR is twice as potent than clenil, so they can’t be interchanged

what is the advantage of spacers?

A

remove the need for accutation and coordination

  • allows larger proportion of particles to be inhaled and deposited in the lungs
  • the larger the spacer the more effective is. Volumetric is most effective

A

  • breathe out until you cant breathe out anymore
  • then use the inhaler breathe in for at least 10 seconds

Rinse mouth with water after inhalation

  • use a spacer
  • anti-fungal oral suspension or GEL can be used to treat oral candidiasis without stopping the steroid
