what is cystic fibrosis?
genetic disorder - affecting the lungs, liver, pancreas, intenstine and reprodutive organs
what is used in cystic fibrosis?
immunosuppresants
colysteramine
creon
carbacistine
what are the symptoms of CF
- pulomonary disease
- recurrent infection
- production viscous sputum
- malabsorption due to pancreatic insufficency - oesteoprosis
aim of treatment (cystic fibrosis) ?
optimize lung function (inhaltion) hydration and nutrients loosen mucus airway clearance regular excersize to improve fitness
need to see patient every 3 months
first line for CF?
dornase alfa or DPI if this not tolerated
when should mucolytics be stopped in CF patients?
If no benifit after 4 week trial.
which patients should mucolytics be cautioned in?
those who have peptic ulceration, as may disrupt gastric mucosal barrier
Caustions of LABA and SABA?
arrhythmias
- hypokaleimia
- QT prolongation
active ingredient in seritide?
salmetarol (green)
laba interactions?
hypokalemia worsened by other potassium lowering drugs e.g. loop duiretics
LABA examples ?
oxis turbohaler, fostair, onbrez, breezhaler, serevent
antimuscarinic cautions?
