respiratory Flashcards
what are the parts of the upper respiratory?
nasal cavity, nostril, pharynx, and larynx
what are the parts of the lower respiratory tract?
trachea, right/left bronchus, alveoli, and bronchiole
what is the conducting zone and what parts are considered a part of this?
the conducting zone is all the structures that provide passageways for air to travel in/out of the lungs. nasal cavity, nostril, pharynx, larynx, trachea, right/left bronchus, and bronchiole
what is the respiratory zone and the parts of the zone?
the respiratory zone allows inhaled oxygen to diffuse into the lung capillaries in exchange for carbon dioxide. the parts are the bronchiole and alveoli
nose function
filters air by trapping dirt and microbes in the mucus and hairs in the nostril. it also warms the air.
pharynx and trachea function
passageways for air to travel.. pharynx down to the trachea
larynx function
the voice box.. sits on top of the trachea (adams apple)
bronchi function
brings air from the trachea into the lungs. they branch into smaller tubes called bronchioles
alveoli function
thin walled air sacs that extend from the bronchioles and are wrapped in capillaries. oxygen and carbon dioxide pass through these
diaphragm function
a muscle that’s contracts/expands to push and pull air in/out the lungs. when it moves down(contracts), the lungs is pulling air into the lungs.
rescue medicine
a medicine intended to relieve your symptoms immediately
