Respiratory Flashcards
What are the low flow oxygen delivery methods?
Nasal canula, simple face mask, partial rebreather, non rebreather
What are the high flow oxygen delivery methods?
Venturi mask, aerosol mask, face tent
What is oxygen toxicity?
High concentration of oxygen for long durations
What can we do to prevent oxygen toxicity?
Use lowest amount of o2 possible, decrease FiO2 as SpO2 improves
How can we prevent Oxygen-Induced hypoventilation?
Monitor RR rate and pattern, use venturi mask
How can we prevent combustion?
Post no smoking and oxygen in use signs, know where closest fire extinguisher is
What are the early manifestations of hypoxia?
Tachypnea, tachycardia, restlessness, anxiety, confusion, pallor, elevate BP, use of accessory muscles, nasal flaring
What are the signs of late hypoxia?
Stupor, cyanotic skin or mucous membranes, bradypnea, bradycardia, hypotension, cardiac dysrhythmias
What are some ways to thin secretions?
Provide adequate humidification and hydration
What is the purpose of physiotherapy?
Loosen respiratory secretions and move them into the central airways where coughing or suction can remove them
What is physiotherapy? (in simple terms)
Vest that shakes
How do you assess cyanosis in dark skin?
Oral mucosa and conjunctiva of eye
