Causes of haemoptysis

A

Most common: infection(pneumonia, TB, bronchitis…)
Then lung cancer
Less common: bronchiectasis, wegner, goodpasture, pulmonary hypertension

Pneumonia organisms

A

Streptococcus pneumoniae: most common cause of CAP, typical lobar consolidation

Legionella: water tanks/air con related, flu like symptoms then DRY cough and dyspnoea, also
bradycardia, hyponatraemia, lymphopaenia,
Treat with macrolide

Mycoplasma pneumoniae: also flu like symptoms then dry cough, but bilateral consolidation on CXR, and
haemolytic anaemia(COLD), erythema Multiform and erythema nodosum.
Chest is normally weirdly clear but CXR shows interstitial infiltrates
Diagnosed with mycoplasma serology and cold agglutins in blood
Treat with doxy/macrolide
