RESPIRATION EXPERIMENT Flashcards
What is needed for this experiment?
1.A tube (inlet pipe) connected from the air to all 4 flasks and an exit pipe at the end.
What is in the 1st flask?
A FLASK OF SODIUM HYDROXIDE
What is in the 2nd flask?
A FLASK OF HYDROGEN CARBONATE (ππ£πππππ©π€π§ πΌ)
What is in the 3rd flask?
A FLASK OF: πππππππππ ππππΌππππ (worms)
What is in the 4th flask?
A FLASK OF Hπ΄ππ πͺπ’πΈπ© πππ π΅πͺπ©ππ―πΈ (πππ ππππππ π©)
What is connected to the last flask?
An exit pipe
What happens in the 1st flask?
As the air enters the 1st flask
The C02 in the air will be absorbed by the SODIUM HYDROXIDE
What happens in the 2nd flask?
The C02 present in the 1st flask
Causes the HYDROGEN CARBONATE (indicator A) to turn red
What does the colour red indicate?
Low levels of C02
What happens in the 3rd flask?
The respiring organisms will respire AEROBICALLY producing CO2 as a waste product
What happens in flask 4?
The CO2 production in the previous flask causes the final flask of HYDROGEN CARBONATE to turn yellow
What does yellow indicate?
High levels of CO2
CONCLUSION
This shows that LIVING ORGANISMS produce CO2 in respiration
