OSMOSIS IN TISSUES (TURGID/FLACCID/PLASMOLYSED) Flashcards
1
Q
What happens when water moves into a plant cell?
A
TURGID= VACUOLE gets BIGGER, pushing CELL MEMBRANE against CELL WALL (makes cell rigid/firm)
2
Q
Why is it important for plant cells to be rigid/firm?
A
Provides support/strengthens the plant (stands upright)
3
Q
What prevents the cell from bursting?
A
Pressure created by the cell wall stops too much water from entering and bursting, (even if placed in HWP solution)
4
Q
What happens when a plant doesn’t get enough water?
A
Cells cannot remain rigid/firm (turgid) plant wilts
