Respiration Flashcards
What is a respiration?
It is a chemical reaction.
What happens in the chemical reaction?
one or more old substances get changed into new ones.
What are the old substances called?
The reactants.
What are the new substances called?
The products.
What is the process of respiration?
Its the process of releasing energy from glucose.
What is aerobic respiration?
It is respiration that uses oxygen. It takes place in the mitochondria.
What happens in aerobic respirations?
Glucose and oxygen react to produce carbon dioxide and water. This releases lots of energy.
What is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
Oxygen+glucose-carbon dioxide+water+energy
What is anaerobic respiration?
It is respiration without oxygen.
Which is less efficient aerobic or anaerobic respiration?
Anaerobic because less energy is released. Because of this anaerobic respiration usually happens when there is not enough oxygen.
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in humans?
Glucose-lactic acid+energy
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in microorganisms?
Glucose-carbon dioxide+ethanol+energy
