Gas exchange Flashcards
What are lungs?
Lungs are like pink sponges protected by the ribcage.
Where does the gas exchange happen?
The air that you breathe goes down the trachea. Next there are 2 tubes called bronchi. Each go into one lung the bronchi are split into smaller tubes called bronchioles. The bronchioles end up at air sacs called alveoli and that is where gas exchange happens.
What is the process of gas exchange?
When you inhale oxygen it passes through the bloodstream and is used for respiration. Carbon dioxide is a waste product in respiration. In the lungs the carbon dioxide passes out of the blood and into the lungs then breathed out.l
Why lungs well-adapted?
1) They are moist
2) They have good blood supply
3) Big Surface area
