What happens during gas exchange?
A
- deoxygenated blood enters the pulmonary capillaries that surround the alveoli
- O2 from inhaled air diffuses down its gradient into capillaries, where it binds with Hb and returns to the heart
- CO2 from tissues diffuses from the capillaries to the alveoli, and is exhaled
