Respiration Flashcards
Where does aerobic respiration take place?
Cytoplasm and Mitochondria.
What is Respiration?
Respiration is a series of enzyme controlled reactions carried out by all cells to release energy stored in glucose.
Where does anaerobic respiration (fermentation) occur?
Cytoplasm.
What cells have a larger number of mitochondria, and why?
Muscle Cells, Sperm Cells and Nerve Cells because they require a lot of energy.
The energy which is release from the breakdown glucose is used to?
Generate ATP from ADP and an inorganic phosphate (Pi).
The energy can be released from ATP when required, breaking it down to?
ADP and an inorganic phosphate (Pi).
What are some of the uses from this energy?
Muscle contraction, cell division, protein synthesis, and transmission of nerve impulses.
Where is ATP regenerated?
During Respiration.
