Genetic Engineering Flashcards
What is the first step in the process of genetic engineering?
Identification and removal of required gene from source chromosome.
What is Genetic Engineering?
It is the transfer of genetic material from one organism to another.
What is the second step in the process of genetic engineering?
Enzyme used to cut out required gene from chromosome.
What is the third step in the process of genetic engineering?
Plasmid removed from bacterial.
What is the fourth step in the process of genetic engineering?
Enzyme used to cut plasmid open.
What is the fifth step in the process of genetic engineering?
Insertion of required gene into bacterial plasmid. Gene sealed into plasmid by an enzyme.
What is the sixth step in the process of genetic engineering?
Insertion of plasmid into bacterial cell.
What is the seventh and final step in the process of genetic engineering?
Bacterial cell now synthesizes the required product now allowing mass production. The product will be removed and purified.
What can be produced by using genetic engineering?
Insulin, Factor VIII and IX, and human growth hormone.
