Respiration Flashcards
Definition of respiration
Refers to the series of chemical changes that take place in cells to release engery. The process of taking air in and air out
Order of respiration system
Nasal cavity>epiglottis>pharynx>larynx (voice box) > trachea (windpipe) > bronchus > lung >bronchioles> alveoli> capillary> diaphragm> intercostal muscles> rib cage
What are alveoli
Are one cell thick and are surrounded by capillaries. Oximetry dissolves in the moist surface of the alveoli and moves by a process call diffusion across the shirt inside an alveolus blood. Oxygen enters red blood cells and is travelled to where needed. Oxygen is used to release energy from food.
The diaphragm
- Breathing in diaphragm moves down and increase volume of space inside your chest.
- breathing out the diaphragm moves up the volume decreases
The chemical equation for respiration
Oxygen+ glucose > carbon dixoide+ water+ energy
