Respiration #2 Flashcards
What is minute alevolar ventilation?
amount of new air entering the alveoli each minute.
MAV=
rate (tidal volume. -dead space)
Minute Alevolar Ventilation at rest?
12 breaths per minute, TV=500 mL breath, dead space 150 mL
Minute Alevolar Ventilation during exercise?
50 breaths per minute, TV=3150 mL breath, dead space=150 mL
Obstructive Pulmonary Disorders
Airway resistance and expiration is difficult. (asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
Asthma
Airway obstruction due to inflammation, mucous secretion, bronchoconsrtiction.
**This can be caused by allergies, exercise or infections.
Emphysema
This is a type of COPD 1. the alveolar tissue is destroyed 2. there isn't much room for gas exchange 3. bronchioles collapse A cause of this is smoking.
Chronic Bronchitis
This is a type of COPD
1. inflammation in the lower airways
2 airways swell
3.mucous doesn’t move because the cilia are damaged
a cause of this is smoking pollution, allergies
Restrictive Pulmonary Disorders
inspiration is difficult due to decreased compliance due to scar tissue build up.
How much energy is required for quiet breathing
requires 3% of total energy expenditure.
