Respiration Flashcards
Lactic acid is transported to where?
The liver to be broken down
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration?
Glucose–>lactic acid + energy
Respiration can’t be used directly from cells so it’s used to make what?
ATP
What is ATP?
ATP acts as an energy source for many cell processes and transports energy to where it’s needed in a cell
What is respiration controlled by?
Enzymes
So from this what do we know the rate of respiration is effected by?
Temperature and ph
Aerobic respiration needs plenty of what?
Oxygen
Aerobic means…
“With oxygen”
What is the equation?
Glucose+oxygen–>Carbon dioxide+water ( +energy)
What increases when respiration rate increases?
Oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production
What is the metabolic rate?
Amount of energy being used
Anaerobic means…
“Without oxygen”
What happens in anaerobic respiration?
Glucose is only partially broken down, and lactic acid is produced.
Where does lactic acid build up?
In the muscles causing a lot of pain.
After using anaerobic respiration you will result in what?
Oxygen debt
