Multiplying Cells Flashcards
Being multicellular means that an organism also has to have…
Specialised organ systemso
Name examples of advantages in being multicellular
- Being multicellular can mean you can be bigger.
- Being multicellular allows for cell differentiation, so they cell can do many things.
- these both mean that multicellular cells can be more complex
What is mitosis?
Mitosis is when a body cell splits up to form two identical offspring. Division of body cells.
Describe the process of mitosis?
1) the DNA is replicated
2) DNA then coils into double armed chromosomes. They’re the exact same copies of each other.
3) the chromosomes line up at the centre of the cell and then divide as cell fibres pull them apart.
4) the cytoplasm divides forming two new cells, containing the same genetic material.
5. ) that’s mitosis, you’ve ended up with two new cells that are genetically identical to eachother.
