What are the two gases the alveoli store?
Carbon dioxide and oxygen
What causes oxygen to diffuse into the bloodstream?
Diffusion (The spread of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of lower concentration)
What happenes when oxygen enters the blood capilary?
It binds to the haemaglobin in red blood cells, and its transported throughout the body.
State three characteristics of the alveoli.
The wall of the alveoli is oine cell thick, allowing for easy gaseous exchange.
The number and bulging shape of the alveoli increase surface area, also allowing for easier gaseous exchange.
They are surrounded by capillaries, also allowing for easier gaseous exchange.
What is a difference between the blood entering the lungs, and the blood leaving the lungs?
The blood entering is deoxygenated, whereas the blood leaving is oxygenated.
State the chemical equation for respiration.
Glucose + Oxygen —–> Carbon Dioxide + Water
Why is “aerobic respiration” described as “aerobic”?
Beacause it involves oxygen.
