Respiration Flashcards
What is the equation for aerobic respiration ?
Oxygen + glucose ——-> carbon dioxide + water (+energy)
Where does aerobic respiration take place ?
In the mitochondria
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration ?
Glucose ——-> lactic acid + carbon dioxide (+ less energy)
What is anaerobic respiration in yeast called ?
Fermentation
What is the equation for anaerobic respiration in yeast ?
Glucose ——> ethanol + carbon dioxide
What are 2 uses of energy ?
Growth and movement
Active transport
What are the 2 effects of exercise ?
Increased breathing rate and heart rate
What is there more of if there is an increase in breathing rate ?
Increased oxygen in
Increased carbon dioxide out
What is there more of if there is an increase in heart rate ?
Pumps more oxygenated blood around the body
Need more glucose to muscles
Remove carbon dioxide from muscles
What is oxygen debt ?
When you exercise for a long time or exercise hard you respirate anaerobically and therefore lactic acid builds up so extra oxygen is needed to break down lactic acid so you breathe deeper for longer
