Resp Drugs Flashcards
Terbutaline, Salbutamol
SABA - reliever that bronchodilates & mild inflammatory inhibition
Notes - 1st line drugs. beta2 affinity >b1 affinity. Increases cAMP
Formeterol, salmeterol
LABA - reliever that bronchodilates & mild inflammatory inhibition
Notes - 3rd line drugs. SE systemic effects @ high doses (tachy, cardiac dysrhythmia, peripheral vasodilation)
Theophylline
methyl xanthine
Notes - blocks PDE. narrow TI, never inhaled. SE >110umol/L nausea, convulsions, arrhythmias & sudden cardiac death if given IV bolus. DDI bc it is CYP metabolized drugs that inhibit CYP & induce CYP. Use - only chronic asthma
Aminophylline
Complex of theophylline + ethylenediamine
Notes - more soluble
Montelukast, Zafirlukast
Cysteine leukotriene receptor antagonist
Notes - add on to SABA/LABA. inhibits early & late phase response. Use- reduce reactions to aspirin & chronic asthma
Ipratropium
SAMA
Notes - anti-cholinergic effects (dry mouth, glaucoma, bladder function)
Tiotropium
LAMA
Notes - anti-cholinergic effects (dry mouth, glaucoma, bladder function)
Mometasone, beclomethasone, budesonide, fluticasone
IHC for anti-inflammation
Notes - 2nd line drugs (at low dose) that prophylactically inhibit late phase by decreasing cytokine formation in Th2 cells & preventing eosinophil recruitment. SE hoarseness, candidiasis, cough, systemic cushings symptoms @ high doses. Additional controller therapy (at high dose) after LABA
Prednisolone
Oral corticosteroid
Chromoglycate drugs
mast cell stabilizers that inhibit degranulation
