How can a patron access an article that’s not included in the TC or Columbia collection?

A

Patrons can make a request through the reserves system. They can sign in using their uni and password and they will see a yellow tab on the upper right side that says, ‘Make a Request’ from there they can request the article.

A

A patron can put a recall on the book. The patron who currently has the book checked out will get an email and they will have 10 days to return the book to the library.

How can a faculty member put something on course reserves?

A

The faculty member must sign into course reserves and hit the yellow ‘make a request’ tab. Then the option to put the request on course reserves will pop up, they should hit yes and then make the request. In most cases hard copies of articles and books should not be brought to the services desk.

A

All students, faculty and staff can obtain free access. There is a direct link on the TC Library page. You must login with your UNI and then create an account.

A

Yes. While you are in the item record in Sierra, click on “View” at the top of the Sierra screen, and select “Public Display” in order to view the same item in Educat.

How can I tell the difference between TCANA, New TC Press, and New TC Faculty since all the call numbers say “TCANA”?

A

While all the call numbers say TCANA, there will also be a New TC Press or New Faculty sticker indicating the location. If the item only says TCANA and has no sticker, then it is a Closed Stack item instead.

A

3ddis location indicates the item is a New Teachers College Dissertation located in our “New Dissertations” section in our 3rdFloor Reading Room.

What does the Sierra location code “cidis” indicate?

A

Cidis location indicates the item is a dissertation located in our Closed Stacks. Most of these dissertations in closed stacks can also be found electronically, either by searching in Proquest or Pocket Knowledge.

If I am working on a Libcirc Ticket and the patron is requesting a dissertation in our closed stacks (Sierra location cidis), what should I first do before submitting the ticket to be retrieved in the closed stacks?

A

Before sending the ticket to Stack Maintenance to retrieve, first check in Proquest and Pocket Knowledge to see if the Dissertation is available electronically. If the item is available online, send the patron a link to the full text.

How can alumni get a card and/or access to the library?

A

Alumni can get an alumni card (with a valid photo ID) at Card Services, Whittier Hall 1B, Monday-Friday from 9:00 AM - 5:00. Alumni access to the library is on our website under “Library Services” (http://library.tc.columbia.edu/alumni.php)
