Are all of TC’s resources included in the Columbia University article finder?
No, about 15% of Teachers College materials are not included in the Columbia University article finder.
Can you search by article title in EDUCAT?
No, you have to search by journal title.
How can a patron access an article that’s not included in the TC or Columbia collection?
Patrons can make a request through the reserves system. They can sign in using their uni and password and they will see a yellow tab on the upper right side that says, ‘Make a Request’ from there they can request the article.
Do alumni have access to TC resources?
Alumni can pay $100 for select access to e-resources.
If you don’t know the answer to a patron’s research question what should you do?
You can help the patron submit a support request with their research question.

If a book is already checked out, what can a patron do?
A patron can put a recall on the book. The patron who currently has the book checked out will get an email and they will have 10 days to return the book to the library.
How can a faculty member put something on course reserves?
The faculty member must sign into course reserves and hit the yellow ‘make a request’ tab. Then the option to put the request on course reserves will pop up, they should hit yes and then make the request. In most cases hard copies of articles and books should not be brought to the services desk.
How can I read TC Record?
All students, faculty and staff can obtain free access. There is a direct link on the TC Library page. You must login with your UNI and then create an account.
How can I renew an interlibrary loan book?
On the cover of the book there is an email address and you can send an email requesting a renewal: interlib@tc.edu
If I am looking at an item in Sierra and find it easier to view the same item in Educat instead, is there a way to get to Educat from Sierra?
Yes. While you are in the item record in Sierra, click on “View” at the top of the Sierra screen, and select “Public Display” in order to view the same item in Educat.
What does the Sierra location code “mastk” indicate?
Mastk location indicates the item is a book located in our circulating stacks (which floor pertains to the specific call number).
What does the Sierra location code “maovr” indicate?
Maovr location indicates the item is an Oversize book located in the Oversize section in the 2nd Fl stacks
What do the Sierra location codes “3dfac” and “3dpre” indicate?
3dfac location indicates the item is a New Faculty book in the 3rd indicates the item is a New Teachers College Press book in the 3rd floor Reading Room under “New Faculty.”
What does the Sierra location code “pebnd” indicate?
Pebnd location indicates the item is a bound journal located in the closed stacks.
