Resource Management Flashcards
Global distribution of resources
Food- without access to enough people become malnourished, increases likelihood of disease, don’t perform well at school
Water- clean, polluted by raw sources, water bourne diseases
Energy- industry and transport
Global supply and consumption of resources is uneven - depends on countries wealth
Food in the uk
People want seasonal food all year round, organic produce
Carbon footprint of our food is growing- growing, processing, and packaging produces co2
Farming is becoming more industrialised- farm sizes increased and number of workers
Managing the uks water
Demand for water varies across the uk - north and west of uk have high rainfall = good supply
South east have high pop in high demand
Water pollution needs to be managed - problems - nitrates, pollutants - cleansed with expensive treatments
Water transfers help maintain supplies - dams affect wildlife and are expensive
Energy in the uk
The uks energy mix has changed
The uks supplies of coal oil and gas are running out
Exploiting energy sources causes economic and environmental issues - economic- expensive , not reliable enough
Environmental- releases co2, fracking polluted groundwater, oil spills, ecosystems damaged
