resistors Flashcards
when another resistor is connected in series, the total resistance
increases
in a series circuit, there is a single path so charge carriers have to
go through an extra resistor
for 2 or more resistors connected in series, the total resistance equation is:
RT = R1 + R2 + ….
for 2 or more resistors connected in parallel, the total resistance equation is:
1 divided by RT = 1 divided by R1 + 1 divided by R2 + ….
when another resistor is connected in parallel, the total resistance
decreases
in a parallel circuit, there is an extra path for charge carriers to follow so
more charge flows
p.d across R1 =
R1 divided by (R1 + R2) x Vs
p.d across R2 =
R2 divided by (R1 + R2) x Vs
a potential divider consists of
2 resistors in series with a battery
