THIS AND Manual for Official Controls CHAPTER 5 RESIDUESIS YOUR GO TO!!!!
Outline surveillance sampling in regards to the National Residue Plan
Requirement of thisNational Residue Planthat samples are not takenrandomly
Samples should be taken on the basis of random allocation of samples to target animal groups.
Differentiate between surveillance and suspect sampling
Surveillance sampling: designing National Plans e.g. residue surveillance sampling
Suspect sampling: Sampling of animals /meat suspected of containing residues
What are some signs that may lead to the suspect sampling for antimicrobial
(1) Signs of recent illness
(2) Injection sites are detected at post-mortem examination
(3) All carcasses presented as on-farm emergency slaughter (OFES)
What are some signs that may lead to the suspect sampling for anabolic steroids
1) Finding of an implant or pellets at ante-mortem or post- mortem examination;
(2) Recent injection sites are detected or on unusual sites
Alterations to secondary sex characteristics
Behavioural changes
Changes in conformation, suspicious grading
What are some signs that may lead to the suspect sampling for Beta Agonists
Suspects should be identified @ ante-mortem/post-mortem inspection
Good conformation and little fat cover
flaccidity of the trachea
hyperaesthesia
tachycardia.
Who undertakes the analyses
Veterinary Medicine Directorate or Agri-Food Biosciences (NI)
FVO approved
National Reference Labs (NRL) for certain substances/residue groups
