Research report Methods Flashcards
How should the abstract be formatted
Previous literature summary (the most relevant prior finding/conclusion‐ include citation)
What was done in the current study (emphasise innovations)
What was found (key results only)
What it means (for the study and the field)
Should altogether be 4 sentences (I think)
How should the Introduction be formatted
Para 1) Briefly mention past research’ findings and the limitations with them
Para 2) Mention your innovations to address the issues
Para 3) Mention your hypotheses
How should the discussion be formatted
Describe the key findings in terms relevant to the hypothesis (keep this brief)
Relate key findings to specific prior studies restating methodological differences to show advances and explain differences
Place key findings in context of wider literature/field (impact of findings and potential solutions to the limitations that we had)
What are inappropriate criticisms
Sample size
Nature of sample
Noise in measurement
What should be in a p reference in the results
Direction of effect, meaning of dependent variable, the p-value, meaning of the conditions
How should the results be formatted
Just list all your results - no need for interpretation
How should the graph be formatted
Figure 1 at the top in bold
Figure title below it in italics
Have the graph/chart below with x-axis, y-axis, labels on the axes, datapoints, no gridlines
What are the formats of apa paper (i.e. font and spacing)
Font size 12, times new roman, double spaced
