Research qus, hypothesis and testing hypothesis Flashcards
Identify two types of research questions in psychology State the null and alternative / experimental hypotheses that are generated from each type of research question Define key terms: variation, systematic variation and unsystematic variation Explain the aim and logic of null hypothesis testing Explain the aims and content of critical perspectives on research methods.
What is difference between groups
Comparing scored from 2+ groups
What is relationship between variables
See if an individual scores on 2+ variables are related
How to structure a null hypothesis
Theres NO DIFFERENCE between the variables being tested
How to structure a non directional hypothesis
There is A DIFFERENCE or RELATIONSHIP between the variables being tested
How to structure a directional hypothesis
There is a POSITIVE / NEGATIVE relationship or the … group has LOWER / HIGHER levels of …. than ….
What is systematic variation
Due to the effect being investigated
What is unsystematic variation
Due to reasons other than those being investigated
What is the logic behind null hypothesis
The logic of science emphasises disconfirmation or falsifiabilit. To agree with the systematic effect we must discredit the opposing view (nil hypothesis)
