Research Methods Midterm Ch. 5 Flashcards
SG: Limitations of test-retest reliability
Well for self-report tests the problem could be that they remember what they did earlier and change their answers.
SG: Why is using multiple items in a scale believed to increase reliability?
Blank
SG: Different Kinds of Validity
Construct Validity (Face, content, convergent, and discriminant) Criterion Reliability (Concurrent is two related studies at once, Predictive is grades and how that will affect an sat score)
Random Error versus Systematic Error
Error: The difference between a measured quantity and the true quantity
(the difference between a represented value and a true value)
Random error: Fluctuations in measurement values due to chance.
Systematic error: Fluctuations in measurement due to conceptual variables that are not the variable of interest.
Face Validity
Does it seem obvious it’s measuring the right thing.
Content Validity
Did it think everything through for the experiment?
Convergent and Discriminant
Can the experiment be correlated with other measures for the same concepts?
Is it uncorrelated with measures for different concepts?
