Research Methods Flashcards
Name 4 methods of experiment
Lab, Field Natural, Quasi
lab experiment A01
Controlled environment, EV and CV are regulated and IV is manipulated, cause and effect can be established.
Lab Strength
Repeatable, Greater control, less chance EVs are introduced
Lab Weakness
Artificial, behaviour may not be natural
Field experiment A01
Natural setting, Iv is manipulated to see effect on DV, participants can be randomly allocated
Field Strength
Participants are unaware, act natural, increase validity
Field Weakness
ethical issues, unable to consent to experiment
Natural Experiment A01
Experimenter does not manipulate Iv, DV may be naturally occuring (exam results), Ev difficult to control
Natural Strength
Great external Validity, real world issues effect, E.g effect of pandemic on stress levels
Natural Weakness
Natural events can be rare, reduces chances of research
Quasi A01
Iv based on pre-existing variables, E.g (gender), No manipulation, DV+ naturally occurring
Quasi Strength
Comparisons between people can be made, E.g differences between people with and without autism
Quasi Weakness
Participants are not randomly allocated. participant variables may cause change in Dv acting as Cv
