2
Q
Validity of observations
A
- validity can be assessed by conducting further obs in diff settings w varied people so results are more generalisable
- using more than one observer reduces observer bias
- observer bias can be reduced by using a double blind technique
- validity of a coding system can be assed w construct, concurrent, context and predictive validity
3
Q
Reliability of observations
A
- inter observer reliability - if findings are consistent between two observers (if there is 80% agreement)
- reliability can be increased by training observers in using a coding system
4
Q
Content anyalysis
A
Indirect observation
Analyses the content of an artefact
Coding system breaks it down and then can be Talleyd into quantitative analysis
5
Q
Validity in content analysis
A
- can have an unrepresentative sample
- Coding system could be an issue as it may not be measuring what you intent to measure
- May be observer bias (overcome w double blind)
6
Q
Reliability in content analysis
A
- can be assessed with Test retest by using another researcher
- inter observer reliability
- can be increased by training the observers in the use of the coding system
